Silly Me

I know this is a little silly as #1 it is now halfway through March and has been almost 4 weeks since valentine’s day and #2 as a general rule I hate valentine’s day (if only because I feel it creates situations of contrived love rather than honest to goodness love full of sincere sentiments), but embarrassingly enough I had been planning this valentine’s inspired post a week or two before February 14th to be posted on said date. As I was in Seattle and busy playing with trolls, feeding ducks, reacquainting myself with much missed friends and eating some of the best Greek food I have ever tasted, I am just getting around to this. Please humor me as this post is extremely girly and childish and all those lovely things I can’t seem to push from my brain as I am trying to grow older and become more practical and quit buying dainty little aprons from the 20s and stop spending so much time dreaming of living in a different decade. Anyway, here are a few things I find to be particularly dreamy and quixotic.

I dare you to look at more of Rob Ryan’s paper cutouts. I will be very surprised if your heart doesn’t skip a beat. They are all so lovingly and painstakingly crafted. If you can believe it he even created this dress for Vogue UK. Oh so neat.

Postcrossing's tag line is “send a postcard and receive a postcard back from a random person somewhere in the world!” I haven't signed up yet, but plan on doing so very soon. There are 88,132 members in 191 countries. There's something very charming and romantic about sending and receiving postcards from a complete stranger.

Photographer Josh Goleman is magic.

Assignment 16: Make a paper replica of your bed. Learning to Love You More is a project started by artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher. A good friend once told me I reminded him of Miranda (in the way that I think about things). What a lovely compliment-one I’m not sure I really deserved. I can’t say I agree with all of her political/social/views/values, but what I can say is that if everyone had a heart like hers, this world would be a much kinder one. If you are interested at all in “Learning to Love You More” it’s worth it to watch this video where she talks about how it all got started.

I am such a sucker for anything even vaguely picnic/bicycle related.

First Love is a fairly new blog and I don’t think it’s really amazing just yet. However, I feel it has a lot of potential and I love the concept behind it.

I think this is such a neat idea. During the Fall ‘07 semester my friend Lindsi and I wrote a “choose your own adventure” story we planned on painting on the sidewalks of Rexburg. I even have 100 or so flyers in the glove box of my car telling everyone to go check it out before it got washed away (we were going to use sidewalk chalk paint). Of course it is a love story.

This music video is a few years old, but it never ceases to make
me smile on a particularly dreary day.

I blogged about this before, but it’s worth a second post. Cassette From My Ex is an archive of mixed tapes from or for past lovers. Individuals send in the tapes along with the stories behind them, and lists of the tracks (yes sides A and B) that can then be seen and heard on the website (they pull the songs directly from the cassettes so they have a certain messiness to them rather than uploading mp3s). It makes me wish I would have grown up more in the cassette era and less the CD one.

I miss cassette tapes. I remember making a mix tape for my car when I first started driving. This was in '98, I was just behind the technology curve, remember? Anyway, I can't remember what was on this mix tape -- a melange of Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, and pop-punk, no doubt (not the band) -- but on the middle of one side was a track from the Star Wars soundtrack. It was pretty random.

And one of those CYOA flyers is currently serving as a bookmark.
